Aging Project

AGING PROJECT

The Aging Project is an annual event to increase awareness and inspire action related to issues surrounding aging. The event focuses on bringing educators, clinicians, and community members together for thoughtful and informative dialogue.

The Aging Project: The Grit and Grace of Aging

Join us for The Grit and Grace of Aging where we will look at the ways we can embrace all aspects of our aging experience. We will question the phrase “aging gracefully” and consider if encountering difficulty, loss and illness means failing to age with grace.

Together we will explore how we may emerge from our most significant challenges with joy and purpose. The day will offer a wealth of story and experience, soulful ideas and tools for your own journey, as well as opportunities for discussion and sharing.

FOLLOW-UP WORKSHOPS

The Aging Project Miniseries are quarterly follow-up workshops to explore particular topics related to our Aging Project theme on a deeper level.

The Aging Project main event is just the start of the conversation. We hope you’ll join continued dialogue and education on these topics through smaller follow-up workshops. Look forward to connecting with key stakeholders, educators and professionals in the field of mental health and aging.

You may attend either in person at the San Luis Obispo City/County Library Community Room (995 Palm Street, SLO) or online.

This year’s keynote presenter will be Jeanie Greensfelder, a retired psychologist and former San Luis Obispo County poet laureate. Greensfelder will offer a wealth of stories and insights into her journey of embracing the aging experience, from honoring her creative flow while addressing the challenges of emerging to live gracefully.

The Aging Project is an annual in-person event to increase awareness and inspire action related to issues surrounding aging and focuses on bringing educators, clinicians, and community members together for thoughtful and informative dialogue. Additionally, three virtual quarterly events are included in the admission price.

In addition to Greensfelder, the day will also feature Traci Autry, LMFT, Administrator of Wilshire Community Services, Tai Chi with Russ Brown, retired Cal Poly Dean of Students and currently an instructor at the SLO County YMCA as well as a panel discussion with experts in mental health and aging.

The $65 cost includes the in-person event plus three follow-up virtual sessions. The Aging Project virtual miniseries will take place in September, November and February and will explore such topics as aging parents, the mind-body perspective on managing chronic pain and downsizing and letting go of material objects. Registration includes the full in-person experience, engaging with speakers and other attendees, snacks and lunch. This is a hybrid event so if you are unable to attend in-person you may attend virtually.
